• Pale skin: Cooler, ashier greys tend to complement pale skin tones the best. Our high-shine Silver shade is an ideal choice here, as are other platinum, icy grey and white-grey blends. You may want to avoid warmer, yellow-toned greys.

While most search for how to dye grey hair blonde, turning this on its head can be a fair bit easier. Blonde hair is the best base for grey/silver dyes as they require a light, cool foundation to show off their true tone. That means this is the ideal starting point for:

Got your grey? Then it’s time to get to work. Here are our step-by-step instructions for achieving the best results when dyeing hair grey at home:

1. Before applying colour, perform a strand test and a skin patch test. The strand test previews how your shade will look on a small section of hair, while the skin patch test checks for any allergic reaction.
2. If your hair is darker than a light or medium blonde, pre-lighten with a hair lightening kit so it properly absorbs the grey.

How do I get grey hair dye out of clothes or carpet?

But, if colour slips past your defences onto your clothes, first run the stain under cold water. Then apply a liquid detergent or stain remover, wait a few minutes, and put your clothes in the wash.

For stains on carpet, upholstery or furniture, blot them with a clean cloth. After this, gently rub out the stain using a cloth soaked in warm water mixed with either washing-up liquid or white vinegar. Don’t scrub too hard – this can rub the dye deeper into the fabric.
